CAMERA SETUP

VX1000 SETUP

  1. Make sure settings toggle switch on the back left of the camera is in the middle position, not in auto, or locked.
  2. Go left to right on the settings buttons on the back
    1. Skip AE
    2. Set Shutter Speed to 1/125 or 1/250, no higher
    3. Hit the white balance set button, point the camera at a white, or light grey subject, and press the button directly underneath the white balance button to prompt the camera to set white balance
    4. Don’t mess with audio settings.
  3. Press the exposure button on the front-left side of the camera and dial in the exposure
  4. Unlatch the battery door of the camera and hit the menu button
  5. Use the settings toggle switch to lock your settings

FISHEYE

  • Unlatch the battery door and switch the camera’s steady shot to off
  • Set the Focus Toggle (near the ND switch) to manual
  • Make sure camera is zoomed all the way out
  • press and hold the autofocus button underneath it to get sharp focus

LONG-LENS

  • Unlatch the battery door and switch the camera’s steady shot to on
  • Set the Focus Toggle to Automatic, (except when really dark [ you’ll want to manually pick a focus point and let the camera keep it ]

VX2100 SETUP

  1. Make sure settings toggle switch on the back left of the camera is in the middle position, not in auto, or locked.
  2. Go top to bottom on the settings buttons on the back
    1. Skip AE
    2. Set Shutter Speed to 1/125 or 1/250, no higher
    3. Hit the white balance set button, point the camera at a white, or light grey subject, and press the button directly underneath the white balance button to prompt the camera to set white balance
    4. Don’t mess with audio settings.
  3. Press the exposure button on the front-left side of the camera and dial in the exposure. The camera will also try to suggest an ND level to use if you are outside
  4. Hit the menu button
  5. set color preferences
  6. set audio record to 16-bit
  7. Use the settings toggle switch to lock your settings

~ MUST USE DATA VIDEO OR THE FOOTAGE WILL NOT COME OUT~

DATAVIDEO

  1. make sure there is a CF card loaded
  2. make sure firewire is attached on both ends and you have the excess wire coiled
  3. when you are done filming, you have to hit “create media files” before the clips are ready to transfer

FISHEYE

  • Go intro menu and switch the camera’s steadyshot to off
  • Set the Focus Toggle (near the ND switch) to manual
  • Make sure camera is zoomed all the way out
  • press and hold the autofocus button underneath it to get sharp focus

LONG-LENS

  • Go into menu and switch the camera’s steadyshot to on
  • Set the Focus Toggle to Automatic, (except when really dark [ you’ll want to manually pick a focus point and let the camera keep it ]

CANON DSLR SETUP

  1. Make sure you have a SD card
  2. Set Exposure
    1. Set shutter speed to 1/125 for 30fps and 1/250 for 60fps
    2. Dial in the Aperture (AE) – the lower f-number the brighter
  3. Keep White Balance on Auto
  4. set focus
    1. Fisheye keep focus distance around 4-6 feet
    2. for other lenses use the zoom preview button on the top right of the back of the camera to dial in focus
    3. If you are using a lens that zooms, you will want to focus after zooming-in all the way on what you want to shoot, then focusing.
